Just One

I cannot fathom the idea of Christmas only being a week away. Even more unsettling, New Years is the week thereafter. My mind nostalgically flipped back to last January when my blog was merely a little dream. I believed creating a blog was a silly waste of time and no one in their right mind would want to read what was placed on my heart.

On January 2, 2018, I will be celebrating my first year anniversary of my blog and over the year I have received countless reviews, kudos, tears and even some constructive criticism.

This whirlwind of emotions was stirred up when I left the parking lot of The Tasting Room while attending my first blogging event. The Thrive Blogging Community posted about a Holiday Brunch and unbeknownst to me, provided an environment for bloggers to collaborate, network and come together as a community for creative ideas.

Shifting my car into reverse last Saturday, I felt a sense of relief. Sitting amongst ten other women who are successful bloggers, I did not feel undermined being the newest 'blogger' on the block. In fact, a quote was shared by a fellow speaker I had once photographed which resonated in my mind for the remainder of the weekend. I found myself justifying my fear of writing because of the conflict it may cause and the criticism it could receive. "I'm a Christian blogger. I write about how God works in my life, I share testimonies and all the goodness He has provided." I am unsure if I was waiting for stares, rebuttal or ten women to flee from this gorgeous wine bar, but instead, one young lady says, "Think of it as feedback, not criticism."

Then another says, "The opposite of hate is not love. It's indifference."

Though she was unsure of the entire quote, I later googled and read Elie Wiesel's famous words, "The opposite of hate is not love, it's indifference. The opposite of art is not ugliness, it's indifference. The opposite of faith is not heresy, it's indifference. The opposite of life is not death, it's indifference."

It was then when I knew my blog was not a flop.

Alongside my husband, this group of ladies put it perspective that it does not matter what I write about because all I have to do is reach one.

That is all, just one.

So here's to 2018 and letting God reach 'just one'.
